New Adult Readathon Wrap-up - Huge Giveaway!

28 Jul 2013

Join the NA readathon

This week I have been co-hosting the New Adult readathon with Faye @ A Daydreamers Thoughts. Unfortunately it is now over :( I am thankful to everyone who participated and even more to Faye who did most of the work in organising this readathon and deserves to have you all go and FOLLOW HER BLOG :P

My Achievements

So my main goal was to read seven books and I sort of succeeded. I read 6 1/2 NA books (though two were very short) and I also read two other books that could be categorised as NA (though I probably wouldn't call them that).

Elsker, State of Emergency, No Reverse, The Bone Season, Madison, Gavin, Working It

I would recommend ALL of these books :)

Let us know how well you did! Did you succeed in your goals?

Twitter Chat

Saturdays twitter chat was great and hopefully gave lots of people things to think about and books to read. Here are the main things most people agreed on.

1) NA does not need sex. In fact if we wanted to read graphic sex we would pick up an erotica rather than an NA. Feel free to include graphic sex if it suits the characters but we would equally love emotion based scenes.

2) A book being labelled as NA does not mean it is NA. It has pretty much been agreed that NA is not just YA with sex. So if you are an author of a YA book with sex please don't call it NA (unless the sex is WAY inappropriate for under 18's).

3) If you are an author don't be afraid to be different! We would love to see a LGBT NA. We also want more dystopian and other non-contemporary novels.

4) Boys in NA are sexy because they are becoming MEN.

5) Strong themes of become adults and being independant are what truly makes a book NA instead of another category.

You can check out all of the tweets here.

  2. I find the twitter comments very interesting.

    1) NA does not need sex. In fact if we wanted to read graphic sex we would pick up an erotica rather than an NA. Feel free to include graphic sex if it suits the characters but we would equally love emotion based scenes.

I could not agree with this more. I have read a bunch of NA that have sex. That is totally fine and expected. But I don't get why authors are labelling books as NA and including graphic sex. And not even mentioning this fact in the blurbs.

    2) A book being labelled as NA does not mean it is NA. It has pretty much been agreed that NA is not just YA with sex. So if you are an author of a YA book with sex please don't call it NA (unless the sex is WAY inappropriate for under 18's).

Agreed. But I am having the reverse issue. I just read two books labelled as NA but they were both adult books with very graphic sex. In one the woman was 24 and the man was 31. They both had careers. And i have absolutely no idea why this was marked as NA. The other the woman was 20 (which i would say could definitely be NA). But the man was 25 and there was very graphic sexual content. There were some NA themes, but i think the author would be better off just classifying the book as very steamy adult contemporary romance.

    3) If you are an author don't be afraid to be different! We would love to see a LGBT NA. We also want more dystopian and other non-contemporary novels.

I would love to see a dystopian NA.

    4) Boys in NA are sexy because they are becoming MEN.

    5) Strong themes of become adults and being independant are what truly makes a book NA instead of another category.

All the NA books I read when NA first came out had 18-22 year olds in college becoming adults. Now i am seeing books labelled NA that have very steamy sexual content. The last two i got on netgalley and there was no mention that the books should be for 18+.

  3. I'd love to win the paperback Lick by Kylie Scott. I've read the e-version and I'm dying to have it on my bookshelf. I have a feeling I'll be reading it again and again :D I also have Shine by Amy Freeman on my TBR list, so to get a copy would also be great. Keeping my fingers crossed for Lick though. Thank you for the chance to win!

  11. The twitter chat comments are so true, especially the first and second one. I'm tired of getting excited when a new NA book comes out, or when I'm sent a review request for one just to see that it's mostly about sex, sex and more SEX. It gets quite annoying and tiring to be dissappointed so many times over.

I'd like to win either A Summer to Remember by Elle Chardu or STRIPPED by Brooklyn Skye. Both of their covers draw me to them, and they sound awesome (in fact, I might have to buy them if I don't get them). Thanks for the giveaway!
