Synopsis
Every moment possesses its own kind of magic...
Aimee Spencer learned the hard way that for some moments, there are no take-backs, no rewinds, no do-overs. A year ago her world imploded and Aimee has been running ever since. She doesn't want to feel. She doesn't want to remember. To bury the ghosts that haunt her, she is living a life that has become unrecognizable.
Cole Everly is a golden boy with a cocky smile and an attitude to match. He's grown accustomed to girls throwing themselves at his feet, but when Aimee trips and literally lands in his lap one afternoon, she's not at all what he expects. Difficult, damaged, closed-off. If Cole needed to make a list of qualities to avoid in a girl, Aimee would probably match up with every single one of them. He knows that he should stay away but he's drawn to her in a way that he can't exactly explain.
In this honest and absorbing story, Aimee and Cole struggle to sort out the thin spaces between loss and love. Ultimately, they will need to learn how to navigate through the pieces of the past if they want to hold on to the future and each other.
Review
This book got to me from the beginning. From their “meet” Cole and Aimee had me rooting for their relationship. Aimee literally fell onto Cole’s lap and their story went from there. Aimee wasn’t ready for a relationship and Cole couldn’t explain the feelings he has for Aimee.
I loved watching the relationship between
the two characters completely change throughout the novel. I loved how the two
started out as friends. It made the relationship seem more genuine watching it
change and evolve.
Cole, Cole, Cole. He is a completely swoon worthy character. He immediately has these feelings for Aimee that he can’t explain. He knows he is attracted to her but he can tell that there is something more. He thinks it is about the chase, but the more time he spends with Aimee he realizes that it is something more.
Aimee and Cole are both troubled. She is still recovering from the death of her best friend. She has completely changed after losing her and she does not completely know how to live without her. Her sister and parents worry about her and after a year away, Aimee returns to Florida to try to regain some control and happiness in her life. Cole on the other hand has never let anyone get close due to his mother abandoning his family. Although being close with his sister, through his father he has seen the negative effects of loving someone who leaves. Over the course of the novel, Aimee and Cole work through their issues as they grow, both as a couple and on their own.
The story was real. The emotions, Aimee’s
pain, everything about the story was simply so vivid that you felt these
emotions with the characters. There were moments of laughter, moments of tears
and moments of just plain sadness.
This is an excellent NA book. The narrator
alternates, although Aimee is the narrator more often than Cole. This story is
more than a story about pain, loss and recovery; it is the heartwarming tale of
two people overcoming their pasts to be together.
