Witchblood |
Synopsis - from goodreads
When Jess steals a glance at a gorgeous guy in a Manchester nightclub, little does she realise how he is going to change her life…or should that be death? Yet, the vampire clan could never have predicted what they were taking on.
With Luke pronounced ‘off-limits’ and the blood of a vampire simmering in Jess’s body, can she forget the love of her life and move on? If not, she will risk exposing the entire Northern vampire clan to untold dangers, in order to live her life the way she wants.
Can Jess be sure that Luke is all he appears to be? Will she succumb to the attraction she desperately tries not to feel for Daniel? And why does she still crave a packet of crisps more than a tasty teenage boy’s blood?
Review
I thought this book was absolutely amazing, it is unlike any vampire book I have ever read before and its individuality keeps on increasing the further into the book you read. The vampires are dark and sexy and exactly as a vampire should be. Jessica's secret heritage means she has powers that make her more than just your average Vampire and she struggles to get control throughout the book. Daniel is deliciously sexy and I definitely want Jessica to forget about Luke so they can be together.
Jessica is the sort of character that i would want to be my friend. It is genuinely enjoyable to read about her; she doesn't have any annoying traits like so many main female characters often do. She is powerful both inside and out but her power makes her abnormal and weak - for a vampire anyway. I loved her complexity.
Witchblood has some surprising twists and turns which left me shocked and made the story more amazing and complex. I am looking forwards to seeing what Emma Mills will do with book two as Vampires, Angels and Witches are a very interesting combination. This book beautifully sets up the series and I can tell that Witchcraft is going to be amazing.
There was one more reason i loved this book - the author is British! It is such a refreshing change to read a book where everything is spelt properly and i can understand every single word (don't worry i still love all you American authors out there). The book is also set really close to where i live. This isn't what made me think the book deserved 5 stars though. Witchblood still has lots of appeal for anyone; it is a breath of fresh air for vampire books.
