Synopsis

Meet Liv and Danny...

Liv loves Danny. She knows she loves him more than he loves her, so she lets him go without a fight when his parents make him move back to America. She knows she will never love anyone like she loved him, but she has to move on.

Danny loves Liv. He knows he loves her more than she loves him, because she does nothing to get him to stay, so he goes quietly when his parents leave the UK. He knows he will never love anyone like he loved her, but he has to move on.

Twelve years on, they have made a good job of pretending, they may have almost forgotten. But when they get in touch via Facebook, it seems that it is all still there.

They quickly find that they are intensely compatible in ways they hadn’t even begun to explore before they were forced apart.

Can they put aside their fears and give it a go? Or will deep rooted doubts and insecurities tear them apart?

Review

This book caught me off guard.  The backstory reminds me somewhat of The Mighty Storm.  Liv and Danny were best friends growing up until his family moved to America and they lost contact.  The difference is that their relationship had evolved into a physical relationship two years prior to his departure and Liv discouraged continued contact because it was too painful.

The story starts 12 years later where we find a fun, edgy, and beautiful Liv getting screwed over by guy...Imagine that.  A little 3rd party intervention results in a facebook query from Danny and all the emotions buried years ago are suddenly unleashed.  Things move pretty quickly from there and we are blessed with some intense sex scenes and adorably sweet romance.  The story is mostly told from Liv's POV but we get intermittent peaks through Danny's POV.  It is a little odd how it'll occasionally jump back in time to provide Danny's POV but it works.

Danny hadn't been a monk the past 12 years but when he decides to pursue something with Liv again, he fully commits.  Danny is amazing!  He is upfront about his emotions and is pretty much the perfect book boyfriend; hot, considerate, romantic, loyal, and...skilled in the bedroom.

Their relationship rapidly progresses but their extensive history keeps it from feeling like superficial instalove.  They've each got a few hang ups from their past.  Personally, I wish they would have talked more directly about the emotions surrounding their separation 12 years ago, but I am sure that is coming in the next book.  And that brings me to the end of the book...It's heart-wrenching.  I've been going through a phase of intentionally avoiding books that end like this but I still loved this book.  The absolute best part is that the sequel, Still Human, is due out in October so you don't have to wait on the edge for long.
